 So, you'd like to make a clickable banner to use instead of a plain old url.  Generally if you are using the banner in a link exchange, then the webmaster/mistress of that site takes care of that. You simply supply the banner and url to them.  If it is for on a main webpage of a site then you should have access to the c-panel and perform the following steps:

1. Upload and add the banner to the site using the domain's uploader tool. It is also possible to upload the banner to an image hosting site and, using the IMG code, insert it into the website's html 

2.Navigate to the web page html layout code. The banner will have a code that reads <img src="http://yourimage.jpg">. To make the banner clickable, determine the web address to be connected with the banner (for instance, the home page of the site). Use the following code to create a free clickable banner: <a href="&lt;img">http://site-you-want-banner-to-navigate-to.com">&lt;img src="http://yourimage.jpg"/>

3.Test the free clickable banner after publishing the web page. A cursor over the banner should cause the desired location site to show up in the bottom left of the computer screen. If it doesn't work, recheck the html code and ensure there are no stray characters, symbols or spaces.

 If you wish to use the banner say on other sites (providing the host doesn't mind) it really depends on what the site offers you. Here we use the rich text editor in comments, but many others (like Facebook) do not offer this option.  With the rich text editor you don't even need to know coding. 

At the top of a rich text editor you'll see a mini c-panel. It looks something like this:

If you don't see something similar to this odds are you can't post pictures let alone a clickable banner. So first you want to upload a picture. Here we have the Attach Images found at the bottom of the posting area, or if the picture is loaded somewhere else you can use that little tree icon that requires the url of the picture.  Personally, I prefer  the Attach Image (s). Once the picture is  loaded into the text area, click the image (it will turn blue) then click the link icon (it looks like a few links of chain, below the underlined A.)  A small menu will open. In the top line you put the URL of where it is you want folks to go. Then under 'target' you can choose whether you want it to open in a NEW window , or in the same window.  If you are using the banner on someone else's site, I'd opt  for NEW, just so no one can read it as you're hijacking 'their' members off the original site.  Just click 'insert' and you're done!
